Travefy
Summary
Travefy creates software that helps travel advisors and agencies run their business. My focus areas are frontend leaning full-stack development and AI. Most of my work here has been focused on two major ongoing projects: a frontend migration from Ember.js to React, and an integrated "smart import" functionality that uses AI to parse documents into Travefy.
AI Work
I planned and led a project to modernize the architecture of the most used AI feature at Travefy, called Smart Import. It works by parsing documents into itinerary events that a user can import into the application. I created a modular agent pipeline with dedicated agents to different steps of the parsing process, rewrote the prompts and defined a schema for structured JSON extraction. I also created an eval framework using Gold Standard evals and Langfuse Datasets to measure and improve the performance of the system. The result of this effort was a system that was more performant than its predecessor and much easier to improve.
Since that initial project I've led the implementation of new workflows to power similar document parsing features. I've also tackled complex issues with document parsing and OCR fallback for different file types (especially PDFs), improved and scaled the Eval framework, and created a frontend package that makes it easy to embed a Smart Import feature in any part of the application. I've also built a few additional AI systems during internal hackathons, including a RAG powered support ticket triage pipeline, an MCP server and an AI assisted landing page builder.
Frontend Migration
When I joined, the team was in need of someone with React expertise to help modernize the frontend across the board. This initiative included finding a way to move away from a legacy Ember.js monorepo towards a modern React application, and also a refresh of the design system. I worked with the CTO, a senior designer and a staff engineer to plan the migration, and I personally led the efforts to introduce a backwards compatible TailwindCSS configuration to 7+ applications spanning numerous major versions of Ember, different build systems, and SASS configurations. The result was a shared styles package that codified our design system and could be used in any of these applications.
I also established the architecture for a React component library following atomic design and compound component patterns using Shadcn (Radix) as the library for the primitives. Adjacent to this effort, I also selected and configured modern tooling and dependencies, such as a Storybook instance for the component library and introduced libraries for data fetching, global state, and component testing. (Tanstack Query, Jotai, Vitest)
The last effort was beginning the migration itself. Following a strangler-fig migration approach, I paved the way for the first feature buildout using a "React in Ember" solution to prove the concept. I then worked on upskilling my team to learn React by writing documentation, pairing with team members, and presenting on the new architecture. Today the team no longer writes Ember, and about half the legacy codebase is React.
