I’ve been making a conscious effort to take better care of my skin lately. From paying attention to my diet and what causes me to break out, to making sure I wash off my makeup and use better quality skin care. I DIY a lot of my skin care now, using oils and ingredients that my skin loves. I thought I’d share a couple favorite recipes with you guys!
DIY COFFEE SCRUB
I bought coffee scrub before, and LOVED using it. But it’s expensive to buy, so I knew I could DIY it for a lot less. After a big batch of cold brew coffee, I was left with 4 cups of coffee grounds and whipped this up. The caffeine in coffee grounds help tighten the skin, and the coarseness of the grounds are a fantastic exfoliant for your whole body. I do use this on my face as well, but I scrub very gently.
I use almond, avocado, grape seed, or jojoba oil for making this – they’re great oils for the skin! I like using a combo of oils, so in this batch I used half grape seed and half avocado. If you use coconut oil, remember that it will harden up, so put the finished scrub into mini muffin tins, and you’ll have a little “puck” of scrub that you can take into the shower with you! Also, this smells absolutely incredible when mixed with Wild Orange essential oil!
To use the scrub, wash your hair first and take the time to deep condition your hair, since you’ll have extra time anyways. Shut off the water, scrub away, and let it dry for a few minutes. Rinse it off, you’ll have baby butt smooth skin! I take coffee scrub with me to our beach camping trip – it helps stave off dry skin from the sun, salt water, and chlorine!
Oh, and you can use either fresh or brewed coffee grounds. If you use brewed grounds, squeeze as much water out as possible, and also keep in the fridge to help it last longer.
DIY HONEY OATMEAL SCRUB
This is a new scrub I’ve been trying out, but I’ve used honey scrub before. It’s a more gentle exfoliant than the coffee scrub, and honey is fantastic for your skin! Honey is antibacterial, so can help get rid of acne, and it’s extremely moisturizing and soothing for irritated, dry skin. (Hello, my face!) Oatmeal is both soothing, and a gentle exfoliant for sensitive skin!
I mixed organic, raw honey with oatmeal I pulsed in the blender. Then added 10 total drops of essential oils. Rosemary, Bergamot, and Wild Orange are the essential oils I used, known for antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. I’m curious to see how this helps with my remaining hormonal-type acne.
