I wrote this for Annapolis & Company a few weeks back and thought I’d share here!
I’ve been into photography for a really long time, starting back when I was a kid and would grab my parents’ film point and shoot to take all the family vacation photos! My uncle (if you’re Southern, anyone who’s related to you but older than you is automatically your Uncle or Aunt…you can never call someone just by their first names!) bought me my first SLR on eBay…a Minolta film camera. I still have it, and it’s still one of my favorite cameras. Once you’ve been doing something for a while, you learn what works, what you absolutely need, and what’s just fluff…stuff that won’t magically make you a better photographer.
This list is definitely a wish list…though it does include a few of my absolute all-time favorite pieces of equipment. I’m a big believer, however, that the equipment doesn’t make the photographer. I’ve been shooting with a Canon Rebel XT for the last 7 years now, and I can make it work! And a great photographer can do just as much with an iPhone as with a full-frame DSLR! Let me know what your can’t-live-without items are…and what’s on your wish list!
1// Camera Bag Insert ($35) – This insert is padded, and can turn any bag into a camera bag! Practical!
2// Nikkor 50mm 1.8 and Nikkor 35mm 1.8 ($100-200) – I don’t have a Nikon currently, but will be making the switch next time I purchase a camera. I do, however, have the equivalent Canon 50mm lens, and it’s my all-time favorite. I use it for practically everything. The 35mm is on my wish list!
3// Canvas Camera Bag ($50) – Love this bag! Looks like leather, and looks like it would wear really well! It also has a padded insert inside, keeping your lenses and camera safe when not in use!
4// VSCO Film for Lightroom ($79-119/set) – This is definitely on my must-buy list once I upgrade my version of Lightroom. I use VSCOCam to take all my iPhone photos, and the dreamy film-quality it gives my digital photos is something I strive to create with my DSLR photos as well. This would make it that much easier!
5// Unique Camera Straps ($29-34) – I love these two straps, though there were many more I could have chosen! Etsy is a great place to find unique, handcrafted camera straps! The green and leather is my personal favorite, but I knew Mary Beth would love the polka dots . ;)
